From Bill Cosby to college campuses to the military, sexual assault has been all over the news lately. While reporting on sexual violence is crucial to bring light to the issue, it's a difficult subject to cover accurately and responsibly. This session will talk about proper word choice in headlines, the ethical implications of how sexual assault victims' stories are paraphrased or presented in stories, and the way news stories can avoid reinforcing harmful myths about rape and rape victims.
